#MyPal Project

Hospitals can be a scary place, and no child should have to be alone. Our "Pals" will become their BFF and stay with them through the entire process. Able to go into testing areas and medical appointments, they will be able to stay with them when parents can't.

Know a child that would benefit from one of our best friends? Tell us about them! We would love to bless them one for free.

Your generous donations help fund this project and enrich the well-being of countless children.

Project: Leave No One Behind

Random Acts of Kindness Charities is proud to campaign to provide support to our veterans who have selflessly served their country and found themselves unable to acclimate post service. To accomplish this effort, we call upon the generosity of organizations and individuals alike to support a program to assist homeless veterans lead their lives with dignity and respect.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) states that the nation’s homeless veterans are predominantly male, with roughly 9% being female. The majority are single; live in urban areas; and suffer from mental illness, alcohol and/or substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. About 11% of the adult homeless population are veterans. Roughly 45% of all homeless veterans are African American or Hispanic, despite only accounting for 10.4% and 3.4% of the U.S. veteran population, respectively.

Homeless veterans are younger on average than the total veteran population. Approximately 9% are between the ages of 18 and 30, and 41% are between the ages of 31 and 50. Conversely, only 5% of all veterans are between the ages of 18 and 30, and less than 23% are between 31 and 50. America’s homeless veterans have served in World War II, the Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon, Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq (OEF/OIF), and the military’s anti-drug cultivation efforts in South America. Nearly half of homeless veterans served during the Vietnam era. Two-thirds served our country for at least three years, and one-third were stationed in a war zone.

About 1.4 million other veterans, meanwhile, are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty, lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.

                                      Our Proposal

 Project Leave no man behind...

RAK intends to procure a facility that can house up to 250 homeless veterans at a time while providing a series of therapies targeting their inner turmoil, inability to re-engage with family, friends, and employment in addition to addressing any substance dependence. By providing a military styled discipline and structure, our goal is to transition these veterans back into their lives with confidence, personal growth, and the ability to function independently and safely.

Four Phases of Development

Phase One

Detoxification and assimilation into a structured supervised group living environment. Daily group and individual therapy sessions. Nutritional and health evaluations will be conducted and care plans completed to correct deficiencies. VA medical resources will be used as available.

Phase Two

The residents will be responsible for their living areas. They will have group and individual therapy sessions daily. Residents will follow a daily health regimen to include healthy habits and stress management. Residents will receive onsite education in a classroom setting to assist those who have not graduated high school.

Phase Three

Residents will progress into a more independent living with additional responsibilities and training, including basic life management skills. Group and individual therapy sessions will continue 5 days per week. Preparation and examination for GED as applicable.

Phase Four

Vocational training and job placement. Residents will undergo job aptitude testing to determine the best vocational direction. They will be taught to conduct job searches, prepare resumes and complete job applications. RAK will partner with local companies for apprenticeships and employment opportunities. Residents will be provided money management assistance and oversight to prepare them for complete life-management. Once their vocational training is complete and employment is secured, the resident will be moved to temporary housing.

Temporary housing and support will be available for up to 6 months to optimize a successful transition to an independent and safe life. Therapy sessions and support groups meetings continue on a regular basis.
